Microchip Technology Wired Connectivity

Microchip Technology Wired Connectivity Solutions, based on the IEEE Ethernet standards, enable robust, reliable, high-speed connectivity and control when added to embedded designs. Ethernet enables systems to be monitored securely over the Internet, allows for precision control of industrial motors at production facilities, and enables new IoT products with common MCU interfaces like PCI/PCIe®, SPI, USB, and 8-/16-bit parallel bus. Microchip Ethernet solutions include highly integrated Ethernet PHYs, bridges, controllers, and switches complemented by a full line of PIC32 MCUs and SAM Arm® Cortex®-based MCUs and MPUs.

Ethernet Bridges

Ethernet bridge devices enable you to implement Ethernet connectivity to a host processor via USB, High-Speed Inter-Chip (HSIC), Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI™), or PCI Express®(PCIe®) interfaces. In the case of USB, these solutions enable fanning out the local bus, providing flexibility toward additional downstream ports.

  • Bridge USB, PCI, or PCIe® to Ethernet
  • Low-cost, stand-alone, 10/100/1000Mbps bridges with integrated MAC and PHY
  • Ethernet to SoCs, MPUs, and MCUs using a USB or PCI/PCIe interface

Ethernet Controllers

Microchip Ethernet 10/100 controllers include an integrated Ethernet MAC and PHY with a high-performance SRAM-like slave interface and support for external MII and PCI interfaces. The simple yet highly functional host bus interface provides a glue-less connection to the most common 16-bit microprocessors and microcontrollers and 32-bit microprocessors with a 16-bit external bus. The controllers are also available with variable I/O voltages and multiple package options.

  • Low-cost stand-alone 10/100Mbps Ethernet interface controller with integrated MAC and PHY
  • Connects to MCUs through either serial or parallel interfaces

Ethernet Switches

Microchip Technology Ethernet Switches are high-performance, small-footprint, full-featured Ethernet switches supporting up to 9 ports. Applications ranging from IoT consumer electronics, computing, Industry 4.0 factory automation, and automotive designs are supported with innovative features and robust high-temperature operation. Our design check services and software drivers enable a rapid development cycle.

  • 10/100/1000Mbps with up to 9 ports
  • Standard SGMII/RGMII/RMII/MII or 8-/16-/32-bit Interfaces
  • Advanced real-time features: IEEE 1588v2, AVB, PTP
  • Available DLR and HSR redundancy

Ethernet Transceivers (PHY)

Microchip 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet PHYs are high-performance, small-footprint, low-power 10Base-T/100Base-TX/1000Base-T transceivers explicitly designed for today's consumer electronics, industrial and enterprise applications. These devices feature Energy-Efficient Ethernet (IEEE 802.3az) and Wake-On-LAN functionality, which provides system sleep modes for improved power savings. These devices have the industry's smallest footprint and consume up to 40% less power than existing transceivers. They have an integrated voltage regulator and ESD protection components to help reduce Bill of Material (BOM) costs.

  • 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet
  • Robust and reliable featuring low-power modes
  • Small packages with industrial temperature support

Ethernet PIC® MCUs

Microchip provides a complete portfolio of robust, highly-integrated PIC® MCUs and SAM MCU/MPUs with Ethernet support. The PIC32MX, PIC32MZ, SAM E, SAM V Microcontrollers, and SAM A5D3 Microprocessors feature Ethernet MACs with industry-standard MII, RMII, or RGMII interfaces to connect with Ethernet PHYs and Switches. These solutions enable robust Ethernet connectivity for a wide variety of applications.

  • 8-bit Ethernet PIC MCUs
  • 32-bit Ethernet PIC and SAM MCUs
